THE GOOD STUFF

What do you do (job, passion, or both)?
We lead the Scorpion Enduro Team, with Scott serving as Head Coach and Cheryl as Team Director. After several years of coaching XC, we saw a group of incredibly talented riders eager to push beyond the basics—seeking more technical terrain, bigger challenges, and new opportunities to grow.

We created this team to bring those athletes together, support their progression, and help them build confidence and skill while racing and riding more advanced trails. We also volunteer as coaches with the Scorpions XC team during the AZ NICA season, where Cheryl serves as the league’s GRiT coordinator—a program designed to get more girls on bikes.

What keeps you coming back?
Season two for the Enduro team is underway! We’re incredibly grateful for the amazing support from our team families and the dedicated group of volunteer coaches who make it all possible.

In our first season, we welcomed 40 student-athletes—each of whom competed in at least one race in the 2025 MBAA Enduro Series. We can’t wait to see what this next season has in store.

TRAIL LIFE

Favorite trail or ride in Arizona?
Scott’s is National at South Mountain, Cheryl’s is a Gidro/Mine shuttle at Hawes, and the team favorite is a jump session at NRA.

Early morning ride or sunset session?
Early mornings followed by a good cup of coffee.

Hard climb or fast descent?
Fast descents—but we know the best descents come after a hard climb.

Solo rides or riding with the crew?
Riding with our crew for sure.

COOL SH*T

What’s the most memorable team moment?
Racing the Hawes Enduro was one for sure. The entire team competed—anywhere you looked there was a sea of Scorpion jerseys. Our kids absolutely crushed it on their home trail system.

We also love seeing the kids become more confident as the season progresses.

What’s new for 2026?
If it’s not broke, don’t fix it. We’ll continue to lead this team with the kids at the center of it all.

We’ve built a rider-led approach that really works and keeps athletes from burning out. Some practices are race prep, some are skill building, and some are just for fun.

COMMUNITY

How do you give back or stay involved in your community?
These riders bring an energy that keeps mountain biking and enduro racing thriving. They inspire and support so many younger athletes along the way.

Each season, we select team captains who step into leadership roles—helping coach their peers and pushing everyone to grow and improve together.

Who inspires you locally?
The entire mountain biking community has been incredible. We’ve received so much support—from pros riding with the team, to local bike shops and businesses, to the Hawesaholics, and even riders we meet out on the trail who want to get involved.

It’s that shared passion and generosity that truly fuels this team.
